So something weird happened.

Kevin and I both had jury duty yesterday (which was also my first day of summer vacation!!!!). I received my summons in March, and that’s just really not a good time for someone who is self-employed. Taking an unexpected day off would be very time consuming and expensive for me. So I asked for it to be postponed until June, and they assigned me to June 16, the very first possible day I was available. A month later, Kevin received his summons! He was traveling for work in the early spring so he postponed too, and we figured he might as well ask for June 16. They gave it to him, no problem!

Kevin and I arrived promptly at 8:30AM to watch an informational video about serving for jury duty in Colorado. There were about 70-80 people in the room with us, being totally silent and acting weird because they didn’t know anyone. After that, we sat around for a while and read books and played Scrabble on my Kindle. At 9:30, they called over half the people in the room to go on in the jury selection process (being questioned by the lawyers, etc.). They called the number above and below mine, but not me!!! Kevin didn’t get called either, and we were just sitting there *fingers crossed.* A few minutes later, the commissioner announced that the other trial scheduled for the day had been canceled so we were free to go. Everyone was cheering on the inside and headed out of there as fast as possible!! I understand the need for jury duty, but I was (selfishly) hoping not to be chosen. I actually don’t think they would have picked me anyways, but I was also nervous about answering questions in front of everyone. When I first received my summons, I was wishing Kevin could go in my place. Since he works a regular office type job, jury duty it (sort of) like a day off. At least a different type of day. The good news is that we got to hang out the rest of the day. Kevin worked from home, but we still had time to go to lunch!

5280 burgers denver

Since we had already paid for downtown parking, we headed over to 5280 Burger Bar. Love the way they did my lettuce wrap for my Texican burger. :) Kevin had the Boss Hog with pulled pork, and that was delicious as well. The only downside is that they don’t have sweet potato fries. I just can’t get into regular old white fries anymore! It’s just so disappointing when you take a bite!

And now for some CrossFit updates that I’ve gotten behind on, and I want to be able to track in the blog.

255

In yet, another instance of my poor math skills at CrossFit, I thought I got a deadlift pr last week — 2 reps at 255! Wrong.

When I got home and looked it up, I had already done that. Oops. I probably would have tried at least 260. Either way, I’m happy to be closer to 300 than 200!!!!! But I’m sure this is a pr and then some. In the wod that day, I did 12 EMOM (every minute on the minute) 4 deadlifts @ 200lbs and 3 box jumps. 48 deadlifts @ 200 were no joke!!!!

wall ballsRecycled pic from the Friday Night Bar Fights…. I don’t actually have a judge during my normal wods. Although maybe I should with my lousy counting skills.

So we did 13.3 again last week. 150 wall balls + 90 double unders + 30 muscle-ups. I did this wod in February, and I wanted to beat my score of 240. I can’t do muscle-ups, but I can do the sub of pull-ups/ring dips.

This time, I decided to do a very strict strategy on my wall balls. Exactly 10 sets of 15. Of course, the first two sets seems like cake, and I didn’t want to rest. I wish I could’ve seen the clock better from where I was, because I would have liked to time my rests as well. Either way, it was brutal at the end, but I stuck to my strategy 100%! It was definitely faster, and I had over a minute left after the double unders to do a few pull-ups. I think I’m going to practice some EMOM wall balls at home with my 16lber.

post wod runAfter CrossFit last night, a friend and I headed over to Rocky Mountain Lake Park for a little run. We did 4 times – 5 minutes on and 3 minutes off.

running 5 on 3 offSo the valleys in this little screenshot are the 5 “on” minutes.  I would say we were averaging about 7:30 pace. The 9:59 pace includes the 3 minutes of walking/standing so that’s pretty decent!

Here’s an awesome paleo recipe I made for dinner last night: Easy Paleo Chicken Curry.

Have a great week!
